A candle with a very long burn life and a pleasing lavender aroma
The OCCdesign candle I am reviewing has the following message on the front: “This is a little reminder that you’re a truly awesome human being! Light me when you need a little cheer!” The candle has a cute smiley face and short, stubby, cartoon arms.The candle has a wooden cap with a rubber gasket sealing in the candle scent while the candle is not in use. Under the lid is a protective dust cover that you’ll need to remove before burning the candle. OCCdesign reports that the candle jar was made of stainless steel. I confirmed that the candle is made of an iron based metal with a magnet, demonstrating that a magnetic level sticks to the candle jar.OCCdesign lists the candle’s dimensions as 3”W x 3.94”H. I confirmed that these measurements are correct when the cap is on. OCCdesign states that the candle weighs 15.2 ounces (~0.43 kilograms). The weight of the candle in the box with all packaging is 15.334 ounces. The candle itself weighs 13.249 ounces with the wooden lid and 12.374 ounces without the lid or the dust cover. The candle wick appears to be a cotton flat wick measuring 0.85mm x 1.47mm. The wick really isn’t coated with wax but it’s moist with the essential oils slightly leeching out which will make the wick easier to light.The vendor does not tell us what sort of wax the candle is made of but it’s a soft wax. Based on the feel of the wax and its softness, it’s probably a 100% soy candle or it could possibly be a soy wax blend with a very high soy wax content. Examining the wax very carefully, I noticed that the top is slightly wet. This moisture was just at the top and once wiped off the wax doesn’t have a glossy look. Based on my tests and experience, this mostly likely indicates a heavy fragrance load. The fragrance is listed as “floral” and “lavender”. Subjectively, it certainly smells like lavender. I don’t consider the leeching fragrance to be an issue. You want a heavy fragrance load and the cap with its rubber gasket is very effective at keeping the oil contained inside the candle. The outside of the candle is perfectly dry.The vendor doesn’t tell us how much wax is contained in the candle or what the expected burn life is of their candle. I conducted a burn test to get some answers to these critical questions. The candle burned cleanly and evenly with no tunneling. The candle is loaded with floral oil and gives off a pleasant and relaxing aroma of lavender. I burned the candle to completion. The candle burned for an impressive 77 hours and 27 minutes. By subtracting the final weight of the container (1.972 ounces) after all wax was cleaned out from the initial weight of the candle (12.374 ounces), we calculate a wax weight for this candle of 10.402 ounces.In conclusion, this candle gets high marks in all categories. It has an extremely impressive burn life of over 77 hours. It has a high quality clean burn. It contains a high level of essential oils which give a pleasing lavender aroma. Finally, the candle resides in an attractive and durable container.

I chose this candle actually for myself to use for those times when I’m in a low spot. It’s super cute and would make a great gift.It is lavender scented and I would describe it as having a soft to medium hot throw. I lit it in my small bedroom with the window open about 10 ft away from the candle. It took about an hour to melt all the way to the edges.I think this would be a good choice if you’re intending to use it for a small room or if you don’t like really strong scents. I personally find it an enjoyable lavender scent.
